Lake County, west and northwest of Orlando, has two distinct halves. South Lake, around Clermont, Minneola and Groveland, is known for rolling hills and many newer subdivisions along SR 50 and US 27. North Lake has older towns with historic downtowns: Mount Dora, Eustis, Tavares, the county seat, and Leesburg. Florida's Turnpike and US 27 connect the two halves, and SR 429 and the Wekiva Parkway run toward Mount Dora.
Hills in South Lake mean steep driveways, and some lakefront homes have long carries to the door. Historic homes in north Lake towns can have narrow stairs and small doorways.
