Orlando to Tampa movers: quick answers

Legend Movers 4 You is an Orlando moving company, founded in 2015 (USDOT 3595245), that moves homes from Orlando and Central Florida to Tampa, about 81 miles on I-4 west. Our own crew loads, drives and unloads with a custom flat-rate quote in writing. Call 407-440-1423 (24/7) or request a free quote.

What if my Tampa home isn't ready on move day?

We don't run our own storage facility. If your new place isn't ready, or your downtown Tampa or Westshore building only allows moves on weekdays or at set hours, we can unload into a storage unit you rent in the Tampa Bay area and move everything in later. Tell us early and we'll plan the I-4 drive around it.

Can you pack for my move to Tampa?

Yes. Add full or partial packing to your quote and it's included in one flat, written rate. The run is only about 81 miles, but I-4 traffic means a lot of stop-and-go driving, so tell us anything fragile you want packed for the highway.

Orlando to Tampa: a short run with a busy highway

Tampa is the closest big city on our long-distance moves within Florida. The drive is short enough that a smaller home can often be loaded in the morning and unloaded in Tampa the same afternoon. Larger homes, or buildings with tight move hours at the Tampa end, may be unloaded the next morning instead. We set that plan in writing before you book.

The same crew loads your home in Orlando, drives the truck and unloads it in Tampa. Nothing is handed to a broker or moved onto another truck on the way. Your move is quoted as one flat, all-in written rate covering labor, truck, fuel and mileage.

What's included

  • Flat, all-in written rate
  • Same crew from pickup to delivery
  • No broker and no load transfers
  • Usually same or next day delivery
  • Full padding and wrapping for the highway
  • Packing and unpacking available
  • Overnight truck holding only if approved in advance (not storage)
  • Moves within Florida only

The route: I-4 west through Polk County

From our office on Rose Blvd in south Orlando, the truck takes I-4 west past the attractions area and ChampionsGate, crosses Polk County past Davenport and Lakeland, then runs through Plant City into Tampa. That is about 81 miles and roughly an hour and a half with no traffic. I-4 is one of the busiest highways in Florida, and weekday rush hours around Orlando, Lakeland and the Tampa end can add a lot of time, so we plan the departure around it.

Tampa buildings, HOAs and parking

Downtown Tampa, Channelside and Westshore have many high-rise and mid-rise buildings. Most of them want the move booked ahead, an elevator reserved and a certificate of insurance on file, and some only allow moves on weekdays or during set hours. In older South Tampa neighborhoods the streets can be narrow and lined with parked cars and trees, so tell us where a box truck can stop. Newer communities in Riverview, Wesley Chapel and New Tampa usually have HOA rules about move times and truck parking. Send us the rules for both ends and we plan around them.

Where in the Tampa area we deliver

We deliver to Tampa and the Tampa Bay area, including Brandon and Riverview. If you are not sure whether we cover your new address, call 407-440-1423. Leaving from the west side of Orlando? See our Dr. Phillips and Celebration pages. We also run Orlando to Miami and Orlando to Jacksonville moves.

  • Anything you want us to pack for the highway

FAQ

Orlando to Tampa moving FAQs

All FAQs
How long is the drive from Orlando to Tampa?
About 81 miles from our office, roughly an hour and a half without traffic, mostly on I-4 west through Lakeland and Plant City. Rush hour on I-4 can add a lot of time, so we plan the departure around it.
Can you load in Orlando and unload in Tampa on the same day?
Often, yes, for smaller homes. Larger homes, or buildings with short move windows in Tampa, may be unloaded the next morning. We confirm the plan in writing before you book.
Do you move into downtown Tampa condos and apartments?
Yes. Send us the building's rules for elevator reservations, loading docks, move hours and insurance certificates, and we schedule the unload inside them.
How is an Orlando to Tampa move priced?
Tampa is a longer Florida move, so instead of the hourly billing with a 3-hour minimum we use around Orlando, you get a custom flat-rate quote in writing. It's based on your inventory, packing, access at both homes and the I-4 drive, and covers labor, truck, fuel and mileage. Call 407-440-1423 for a free quote.
Do you move people from Tampa to Orlando?
No. Every move we run starts in Orlando or Central Florida, so we can't pick up a load in Tampa and bring it east on I-4. If you're heading from the Orlando area to Tampa, Brandon, Riverview or elsewhere around Tampa Bay, we'd be glad to help. Call 407-440-1423.
