Labor-only moving help means you supply the vehicle and we supply the crew. You rent the truck, book the PODS container or already have the storage unit, and Legend Movers 4 You sends movers to load it, unload it or both. With a full-service move, we bring our own truck too, and our crew drives it to your new home. Which one fits comes down to three questions: who drives, how far your things are going, and how much of the heavy work you want to hand off. If you already know you want a crew for your own truck or container, go straight to our loading and unloading help.
This post sticks to labor-only work: what the crew does, who it suits, what to have ready, and when full service is the smarter call. For a wider look at how home, office and furniture moves differ, see our Orlando home, office and furniture moving planning guide.
Labor-only vs full-service: the short answer
- Labor-only: You provide the truck or container and handle the drive, or the container company ships it. We load, unload or both, here in Central Florida. It suits PODS and other containers, rental trucks, storage units, and jobs where only the big pieces need muscle.
- Full-service: We provide the truck, the crew and the drive. It’s available for moves within Florida only. It suits people who don’t want to drive a box truck or would rather hand off the whole day.
Either way, you get a written estimate before you book.
What a labor-only crew actually does
Whether a load arrives in one piece or not mostly depends on the order things go in. Our crew puts the heaviest, sturdiest furniture in first, up by the cab end of the truck or the back wall of the container. Then they build the load up in layers, strap each section as it fills, and keep fragile boxes high, where nothing heavy can land on them. Soft items like cushions and bagged bedding fill the gaps so nothing slides on the road.
A typical labor-only job can include:
- Loading rental trucks (U-Haul, Penske, Budget and others) and portable containers such as PODS, U-Pack trailers and ReloCubes
- Wrapping furniture with the moving pads you rent along with your truck or container
- Taking beds and tables apart before loading and putting them back together after unloading
- Strapping the load in sections. Straps are available, and you pay only for the ones used
- Unloading and setting each piece in the room where you want it
- Help at the loading end, the unloading end or both, when both addresses are in our Central Florida service area
- A crew sized to how much you’re moving
What isn’t included: we don’t drive your rental truck, and our moving blankets stay with our own trucks. Boxing up your rooms is a separate service. Add our packing services if you’d rather not pack.
Who labor-only help fits
You’re driving your own rental truck or shipping a container
This is the most common reason people call us for labor-only work. You rent the truck or book the container, we load it here in Central Florida, and you (or the container company) take it from there. Arriving with a loaded truck or container? We can meet it here and unload it. Want us to handle the whole move? We move homes and businesses anywhere in Florida: see Florida Statewide Moving.
You booked a PODS or another portable container
You pay for each container, so how tightly it’s packed affects your bill. A careful load can mean fewer containers and less shifting while it’s in transit. Our crew loads PODS, U-Pack trailers and ReloCubes in driveways across Central Florida, and unloads them when they arrive here. See POD and container loading and unloading for details.
You rented a truck and want to drive it yourself
Plenty of people are happy to drive but don’t want to carry a sleeper sofa down two flights of stairs. You pick up the truck, we load it, and you drive. If you’re staying in Central Florida, we can unload it at the other end too. Our rental truck loading crews handle trucks of any size.
You’re moving into or out of a storage unit
We can load a rental truck or container straight from your storage unit, or carry things out of a unit and into your home. If you’d rather we bring the truck for a storage move within Florida, see storage unit moves. We don’t run our own storage facility. We work at the one you rent.
You only need the heavy pieces handled
Some jobs are just a sofa, a dresser, a washer and dryer, and a few boxes. Partial help is fine. Tell us which items need moving and we’ll size the crew to match.
When full service is the better choice
Labor-only saves money when you’re willing to do the driving. Full service is usually the better fit when:
- You’d rather not drive a large truck or deal with rental pickup and return.
- Your move starts in Central Florida and ends somewhere in Florida, and you want one crew from start to finish. Local moves are covered on our residential moving page, and longer moves inside the state on Florida long-distance moving.
- You want everything wrapped with our own pads and equipment instead of renting them.
How to get ready for a labor-only crew
A little preparation keeps the crew lifting instead of waiting.
- Have the truck or container in place before the crew arrives. Park the truck as close to the door as the property allows, with the ramp side clear. Make sure a container is delivered and its doors open freely.
- Know what you booked. Tell us the truck length or the number and size of containers when you request a quote, so we can send the right number of movers.
- Rent furniture pads with the truck. Our crew wraps your furniture with them.
- Finish packing. Tape every box shut and label it with its room. Boxes you pack yourself are your responsibility for contents damage, so pack fragile items carefully.
- Empty drawers of anything heavy, fragile or valuable.
- Disconnect appliances. Shut off and disconnect water, gas and ice-maker lines, and defrost and dry the refrigerator a day ahead.
- Check building and HOA rules. Confirm parking, elevator reservations and allowed move hours, and tell us about stairs or long walks from the door to the truck.
- At a storage unit, have your gate code, unit number, and key or lock combination ready, and check the facility’s access hours.
- Keep essentials with you. Medications, documents, chargers and valuables ride in your car, not the truck.
How labor-only help is priced
A labor-only quote depends on how much you’re moving, how many movers it takes, and the access at each address: stairs, elevators, and how far the truck sits from the door. Local jobs have a 3-hour minimum, and you get a written estimate before you book. For how pricing works on our full-service local moves, see how much movers cost in Orlando.
